HOUSE RESOLUTION 5
(By Mr. Speaker, Mr. Kiss, Delegates Douglas, Doyle,
Trump, Faircloth, Manuel and Overington and all other members
of the House of Delegates)
Honoring the Middle East Peace Talks between Syria and Israel
held in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, in January of the year
two thousand.
Whereas, The citizens of this State and their representative
in the Legislature of the State are also citizens of the world
who value peace among all peoples; and
Whereas, The town of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, hosted and
may in the future host representatives of the nations of Syria
and Israel, the United States Department of State and the
President of the United States, in the hopes that a lasting peace
may be concluded in the Middle East; and
Whereas, The citizens, artists and merchants of Shepherdstown
have spontaneously come together to support the peace process by
providing hospitality and by displaying signs, arts and crafts;
and
Whereas, It is the desire of the House of Delegates of the
West Virginia Legislature to honor all those who contribute to
peace in this world, including the visitors and citizens in
Shepherdstown; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the House of Delegates honors all those who work toward
peace in the world, especially the visitors to and residents of
Shepherdstown, and join in with fervent prayer that this great
work will resume and may be successfully concluded; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
is directed to send copies of this resolution to Ambassador Mary
Mel French of the United States Department of State, Prime
Minister Ehud Barak of Israel, Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara
of Syria, Dr. David Dunlap, President of Shepherd College, Ken
Lowe, owner of the Clarion Hotel and Vincent Parmesano, Mayor of
Shepherdstown.
